As in Seattle, in DC, in New York and here in the Bay Area - independent video makers, radio producers, journalists and activists have rallied under the common goal of promoting social and economic justice to thwart the IMF's and World Bank's pro-corporate policies. In an effort to reclaim media democracy, the Independent Media Center again made public the voices and concerns of tens of thousands from all over the world who gathered in Washington, and who continue to write in with new postings for the indymedia site. Daily reports and on-the-spot video, . . . independent media coverage has again been provided . . . in print, audio, video and on the web.
Deep Dish Satellite TV in association with The Independent Media Center-DC and Free Speech TV were able to satellite broadcast television programming directly from Washington as activists representing labor, the environment, civil society, international law, and Indigenous Nations converged on DC to hold counter events and stage demonstrations. The producers of 'Showdown in Seattle" including; Big Noise Films, Changing America, Downtown Community TV, Headwaters Action Video Collective, Paper Tiger TV, Sleeping Giant Productions, Videoactive and Whispered Media and dozens of others helped make "Breaking the Bank" possible. This new collaboration consists of two 30-minute programs: segments feature live coverage of Washington events and some new productions, which focus on specific global issues as they relate to the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
Because these important voices, opinions and points of view are likely to never be seen or heard in commercial mainstream media - Public Access cable TV centers are encouraged to rebroadcast "Breaking the Bank." Local PBS affiliates and all nonprofit, progressive orgs are asked to consider "Breaking the Bank" for airing or as part of a grassroots screening.
