Last November 30th marked the first day of the attempted new round of trade talks of the World Trade Organization (WTO.) These secretive and ellitist trade ministers were prevented from having their meeting by a huge and varied civil disobience action which physically blocked their entrance to their proposed meeting place. This massive presence and voice of opposition on the streets was mirrored by discontent within the WTO itself - as trade delegates from 3rd world nations began voice their own concerns. That the WTO is not a democratically run institution and it infact tends to make decisions that favor the ellite 9-member tribunal and its respective countries was all brought to light. This added momentum and spark to a global resistance movement that seeks to restore control to people and democratic governments - taking it back from multinational corporations and corrupt institutions (such as the WTO, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.)

This night at Cell will also give us a chance to look briefly at the struggle for affordable housing that is growing locally in the Bay Area.
