INTRO: Founded in 2002 as an off-shoot of Lifecycles Pedal Powered Cinema, we are a small independent video production collective based in England's Westcountry. We recognise that video activism has two roles; one is to produce independent films of a type that the mainstream usual avoids, the other is to document events so that the footage may be used as evidence if required.

We welcome being invited to film events but encourage others to take control of their own representation. We are available for training and workshops.

Real2Reel is an active part the the UK's growing alternative media network. We regularly contribute video content to Indymedia UK and form part of the Indymedia UK Video group. We are also involved in WestCountry IMC.

CONTENT: Our films relate to environmental and social justice issues, all with a grassroots direct action bias. Due to our history and physical base, much of our output is about campaigns against genetically engineered crops. Other subjects have included the campaigns against the UK's nuclear weapons program 'Trident' and anti-war activities.

ONLINE: Most of our recent content is available online. Low bandwidth, preview versions can be found on Indymedia. You can located our contributions by searching for posts by the author 'R2R'

High quality, high bandwidth versions can be downloaded from V2V. Videos stored on the V2V network have been compressed using the VP3 codec (which can be downloaded here) . You will need a supported peer2peer client (such as BitTorrent) to download files from V2V.

V2V Video Syndication Network = http://www.v2v.cc

MPEG1 screening versions are also available to download from www.ngvison.org
or by FTP from Commedia.

FTP Server = media1.commedia.org.uk [or 195.10.228.34]
Username = realvids
Password = r3alvids

OFFLINE: As well as online distribution we also produce video CDROMs, VCD and occasional DVDs. These can be obtained directly from us or, if there is enough interest, from www.cultureshop.org

SCREENING: Obviously we make these video to be watched and if you wish to screen our videos, that would be great. Our films or collaborative projects, have been screened at the BeyondTV and Brief Encounters film festivals.

COPYRIGHT: All our content, unless otherwise stated, is made available under the Creative Commons Licence. This basically means that you can copy and distribute our work freely as long as there is no profit involved and you give us credit for our work. If you use our work, the creative commons licence must persist and if we wish, you should allow us to use your work under similar conditions. Licenses for commercial use or broadcast can be negotiated.

MONEY: We are a not-for-profit organisation and all of the people involved are volunteering their efforts. Sometime we sell our footage or stills to the mainstream news services. Any fees received are feed back into the project to pay for expenses, tape stock, blank media, equipment etc.

EQUIPMENT: Real2Reel owns very little equipment of it's own and has been borrowing kit from Lifecycles, Totnes Genetics Group and individuals. The kit in use includes; Sony PC110E miniDV palmcorder, Sony TRV900E 3CCD miniDV camera, a 1.7ghz PC with Sonic Foundry Vegas video editing software.

DONATIONS: Needless to say, we welcome donations, both financial or equipment. Computers, large hard drives, microphones, used DV tapes, lenses, filters, batteries, additional cameras etc would all find a good home either with us or with our associates, Lifecycles, Westcountry IMC, or Totnes Genetix Group.
