For Immediate Release:

Mobilize! Don't Globalize!

The Video Activist Network presents a benefit video screening for the protest against the unaccountable World Trade Organization (WTO).

During the most recent period of rapid growth in global trade and investment - 1960 to 1998 - inequality worsened both internationally and within countries.*

The World Trade Organization (WTO) is a powerful new international body that develops and enforces rules for international trade and investment. In the four years of its existence, the WTO has established a set of global trade and commerce rules that benefit only multinational corporations while ignoring the rest of the planet. This has resulted in the destruction of the environment, increasing economic and political inequality, the penalization of poor countries, the trampling of labor and human rights, the undermining of local development, and the undermining of national sovereignty. This unelected, undemocratic body has already overturned U.S. laws meant to protect the environment and public health.

The WTO meets Nov. 29 - Dec. 3rd in Seattle, Washington. On Nov. 30th, around the world, and especially in Seattle, tens of thousands of people will protest the global corporate agenda in an International Day of Action! This screening will be a benefit for the Independant Media Center which will cover the protest against the WTO.
